Key Tips To A Cooler Home

July 19, 2017 by Natalie Poteete

How many of you have logged on to social media or via text seen the dozens of photos posted of the rising temps as of late?! I know I have!Hammond's Ferry Homes For Sale

With the heat index into the 100’s we thought it’d be great timing to share with you some tricks to a cooler home during the crazy heat.

Did you know keeping your Air Conditioning unit shaded can impact your electricity bill by as much as 10%? Planting shrubs to shade your unit from the summer sun or using lattice or fencing are a couple of great options to keep your unit cool and efficient. Check out this lattice surround! Remember to keep your indoor fans running. Ceiling fans turning turning counter clockwise in the summer months is an excellent way to keep the cool air circulating. A great idea when you are selling your home and buyers are coming and going. Keeping the blinds shut and curtains pulled in a heat wave will reduce the rising temps in your home, creating less work for your cooling unit. The use of high-efficiency, low-heat bulbs is another small yet effective step you can take to keeping a cooler home and lower energy bill. Plan ahead and eat cool meals that don’t require the use of appliances or cook your meal outdoors, who doesn’t love a good summer BBQ! Power off any electronics not in use! Our bigger electronics produce a good amount of heat. As the Summer comes to an end and back-to-school season begins, it is important to take advantage of the ways to keep your home cool! After all, a lower, more-efficient power bill = more spending for back-to-school clothes for your little ones!
